Sean Deegan: About Us

Sean Deegan - Songwriter/Musician

Music has always been a part of my life, although born in the UK my parents originated from Ireland and so growing up in an Irish family automatically gave me qualifications in providing entertainment at family gatherings, as well as joining in with countless renditions of Irish Folk Music.

At 13 and using some money I was given for my birthday I purchased my first album -
Gilbert O’ Sullivan’s Greatest Hits - At 15 I went to work in a fruit shop at the weekends and started to use my ’income’ to really get my music collection going, starting with The Beatles singles and moving on to their albums. I claimed an old guitar that my mum had bought at a
jumble sale for 50p which was lying around the house and got myself a Beatles song book.

I kept practising the chords and discovered with joy the excitement of playing music, my musical journey had begun.

Drawing from the magical sounds and inspirational characters that the late 60’s and early 70’s were blessed with such as Bob Dylan, Lennon & McCartney & Simon & Garfunkel, I started to create my own songs.

Creating and performing music either independently or as part of a band has continued over the years, and more recently my enthusiasm to become an established songwriter has been re-ignited.

The hands of time have provided me with valuable experience which has allowed me to grow and develop, building songs that are inspired by the classic songwriters of the past and blending them with heartfelt lyrics taken from the experience of living in today’s world. Acoustically led songs built from the solid foundation of classic pop song structure.

In the last 2 years I have concentrated my efforts on creating a website www.Deegansongs.com
and producing an album of my work to showcase my songs. Entry into the 2006 UK Songwriting Competition produced semi-final placements for 7 of my songs and the first 4 songs that I forwarded to The Guild of International Songwriters and Composers (G.I.S.C) for assessment were described as “excellent” with “great commercial value”.

An invitation from Matchbox Recordings led to ‘Ease The Pain’ being commercially released on
‘The Big Indie Comeback Vol 2’. The song has also appeared on the Australian ILR World Indie Chart peaking at number 6.

“The Roads You Take” album is available NOW through Matchbox Recordings and I am looking forward to the opportunity of reaching a wider audience, (as well as being thrilled of course to be working with the legend that is Dale Olivier!).

Sharon Deegan - Writer, Vocals, Recorders

Hello there, I was born into the practical, down to earth and sensitive sign of Capricorn in 1970. Early memories roll back of singing in the Primary School choir and everyone turning to look at me because I sang harmonies, I guess they wondered what I was up to.... I love how harmonies can alter the dimension of a song and stand in admiration of backing vocal singers I think they arent always given enough credit. I used to be part of the school orchestra playing various recorders, and was given the roll of conducting the orchestra on a few occasions, I don't think the teacher knew I couldn't read a note of music, but I knew how the rhythm went and just fluffed my way through! I stopped singing, lack of confidence and fear of people laughing silenced me, it is only since I met my now husband Sean, who had been playing and singing music for years that my desire to sing and join in was re-awakened and with encouragement and support I am beginning to sing again, losing the fear one day at a time of what others think and just getting on with having a bloody good time doing something I love. I can't read music, and have never had any training how to sing. Perhaps one day I will go the whole hog and have some lessons, who knows? I have a love of things artistic and am inspired in the first instance by Mother Nature also gifted people who write, sing, paint, act etc... Talents that cannot be 'bought' but flow naturally and bring pleasure to the world.
